Según Google se trata de un servicio de DNS público, rápido, seguro y gratuito.

 

Los dos DNS que ofrece Google son el 8.8.8.8 y el 8.8.4.4. 

 

En la página de Google Public DNS hay una guía disponible en PDF para cambiar los DNS tanto para sistemas Windows, Linux como Mac OS.
