Breath is a 20 minute composition by acclaimed composer guitarist Joel Harrison written over the pandemic for a 16 person vocal chorus and an 18 person jazz big band. The scope of the work is nearly unprecedented in current repertoire. It combines influences from Renaissance vocal music all the way to modern jazz. It's a celebration of "Anima, " or life spirit, and a reflection on mortality. The music is accompanied by artwork by Iliyan ivanov, NY based artist, musician and film producer. Iliyan’s colorful abstract art seems to be of close to perfect match for Joel’s musical ideas. The goal between the art and music was to create a unified immersive experience in this overtly expressive and emotional work. The animation editing and production was by the film producer, animator and author Bill McGarvey.
Please join us in this rare showing of an art film that seeks to combine art and music in a new way.
