Hi all,

This morning we've been doing an open-IHM tutorial with students from King's College London, and one of them has had problems importing data entry sheets - see the attached error message. Today we were able to get around the problem by adding the household manually within open-IHM, but ideally all features would work!

We think the problem might come from her Chinese version of Excel, which (as well as other possible differences) doesn't provide or recognise the date format that the data entry sheets use.

Do you know exactly what the error message is implying, or how we might be able to get around the problem?

Many thanks,

Wolf

I think the issue is with the file rather than the data. It looks from the screenshot you sent that the path to the file is something like:

C:/Users/XXXXX/Desktop/73 DJ.xls

where XXXXX is some Chinese (?) characters. I guess that the way open-ihm is currently written it does not cope well with filenames that have non-Latin characters.

If you move the file "73 DJ.xls" into a different location, like C:\, that does not have any non-Latin characters in the file path then I would expect it should import. However, I may be wrong; if there are non-Latin characters in the spreadsheet they may cause a problem too.

Try moving the file and see whether that works, but in the longer term this needs to be resolved in the software. It would be great if you could add this one to the Issues list.

Thanks,

Sarah

Many thanks to Sarah for her advice, which we'll try in our next workshop session with the student.

This has now been posted as issue 288 on the open-IHM project website (http://code.google.com/p/open-ihm/issues/detail?id=288&thanks=288&ts=1394213888).

Thanks,

Wolf
