Hello!
I'd like to do only a reflection:
yes, it is true that WMS+SLD is slower than coloring from client side...I believe Mapfish in a good product for WebGIS applications and also its GeoStat Module but....

isn't the OGC standards compliance better than closed link with a single product?

Mapfish uses OpenLayers so it is compliance with OGC WMS, WFS, WFS-T, ecc.... but I think that the use of SLD make OH project not bound to any specific product and much more opened!
Don't u think?

You may be right that it may still make sense to keep and improve the SLD generation, as WMS is accepted by a large number of clients. Perhaps we should support both options.

Anyway the use of Mapfih is good in replacement of simply OpenLayers+Extjs....than after displaying OLAP queries results on the map with SLD, the users can use MapFish to add and manage other data!

So my thought is: improve SLD generation :-)

Another good capability should be integration with GeoMondrian in order to make Spatial MDX queries on OLAP Server ....in this way it will be possible to do drill operations directly from the map and have a bidirectional interaction between table and map views!

Thanks for that link, looks really interesting. Nice presentation here:

Anyway....is it possible to try the new code for OH GIS Module?

The new code is still only on the OLAP side, and has not yet been integrated with the GIS. We will try to host it somewhere by next week.

Thank you again!!

This really depends of the number of features you are displaying, and of the number of their vertices (if lines or polygons). In the case of OpenHealth, where you usually display _lots_ of features, the WMS+SLD solutions will most likely be faster. Especially if you use tiling and proper spatial indexing on the data source. It should also be possible to reduce the number of round trips for this SLD->WMS chain.

Right, this is why camptocamp are contributing client side components of MapFish to the GeoExt project, which will provide a pure javascript toolkit for OGC compliant Web-GIS solutions.

Regards,
Andreas.
