It was a great pleasure having you all
at the recent IDMP workshop on OpenHDS in Dubai. I would first of all like
to thank the INDEPTH secretariat for providing such an excellent opportunity
for learning, planning and exchange. And thank you all for your active
participation, the very useful feedback you provided, and the contributions
to OpenHDS some of you already started making.
We have now had an opportunity for a
first update of both the software and documentation, and I would like to
point you again to the github source code repository: https://github.com/SwissTPH
Here is a summary of the recent updates
you’ll find there:
-We have revised the OpenHDS manual,
and expanded some sections we felt needed some more detailed explanation
-The manual now also includes a section
on using the virtualized OpenHDS server on Amazon EC2. We have created
an image of a slightly updated version of what we used in the workshop;
together with the lecture slides you should be able to continue exploring
OpenHDS.
-Based your feedback, we decided to
bring back the reporting functionality (including printing of the PDF-HRBs).
You’ll find this in the lasted OpenHDS release version
-We have also uploaded the tools and
example database for migrating legacy data from HRS2: https://github.com/SwissTPH/openhds-from-hrs2
. This should provide those of you using HRS2 (but also others) with a
good starting point for analyzing the necessary steps and effort for migrating
your own legacy data to OpenHDS.
We will keep updating all components
of OpenHDS. There are a number of additional open points that came from
the workshop, in addition to some other open issues. The easiest way for
you to keep up-to-date is to use the “Watch” feature on the github meta-repository
(https://github.com/SwissTPH).
This is where we keep links to a consistent set of releases of the different
software and tool components. Note that we continue to be interested in
your feedback about issues with OpenHDS, and features (of general interest)
you would like to see in OpenHDS. Please use the issue tracker to report
these.
We are very much looking forward to
continue working with you. The coming months will provide an opportunity
to exchange with and support those of you who are committed to migrating
to OpenHDS on various aspects of the planning and implementation.
Best wishes,
Nicolas
