HI All -
Lots has happened since the last update:
Burlington launched the Open Data pilot, releasing their first dataset
(Parks/Facilities/Fields), for which I put together a Parks Finder
App:

visualized the Parks data using ESRI's software:

I'm currently in discussions with Burlington about publishing
recreational activity data, setting up potential use-case for the
General Recreational Activity Feed specification (GRAF):

and resulting in applications like Skate Hamilton:

Late 2011 we mapped Halton's Flu clinics resulting in a simple but
powerful web and mobile app, more details here:
http://openhalton.ca/2012/01/fighting-flu-with-open-data/ This is
end-result of working with a Swedish developer living in Thailand, who
created the original lightweight Javascript for mapping &
visualizations.
Also, coming into 2012, we are hoping to see the very first Open Data
motion in our region passed in Milton; more details here:
http://openhalton.ca/2012/01/milton-open-data-motion/ In fact, tonight
I am sitting in the Milton council chambers hoping to get a chance to
talk about benefits of open data to the council -- and hoping the
council approves the motion.
I am also in discussions with Joey Coleman and the OpenHamilton crew
about having our first joint hackathon -- in Burlington! We're
scheduled to meet with the Mayor Goldring on February 23rd, I'll post
an update on
openhalton.ca thereafter.
Between the Milton motion and the Burlington hackathon, I hope we get
som coverage that brings a few more interested individuals to our
group.
Finally, how is everyone doing? We are due for a meet-up, anyone
interested in getting together to talk about what's hapenning with
open data, projects & build some plan to shake things up??
Whaddayathink?
