Hi,
As instructed on kickstarter, I am started a topic to request another batch be made.

My understanding is the threshold is about 80 units.

Requesters, please follow this format to request more (hoping this make it easy for the makers to track):

---
My Request (Example)
Order Number: 0

Order:
- 2 x $115 OpenHAK + Vibe Motor
- 1 x $130 OpenHAK + Display
- 3 x $145 OpenHAK + Display + Vibe Motor

Running Unit Total: 6
---

In your actual request, you would not say "(Example)" and of course, make sure to adjust the count of each device you are ready and committed to actually purchase if available. Finally, add the number of devices you're requesting to the Running Unit Total so the makers can see how close they are to reaching 80 units.

Comments and Questions (to the makers):
  • I only just found about this kickstarter last week on Twitter. Perhaps, it will gain momentum as news spreads word of mouth and people shop for the holidays.
  • Is part of the reason for closing down kickstarter costs? What if you had a donor or sponsor to keep the page up?
  • Are there other ways passionate users could mobilize to keep this going and get the word out?

Thanks for starting this @1timothy4

It cost just over $5K to do the 100 piece run for the Biohacking village, so if we can get 50 people, or 50 committed pre-orders, then we could pull off another run of 100 or so.

Hi,

Unfortunately we don't have any for sale and we have released all of our Simblee radio modules.
I have a handful in my lab (literally 5 or so) that could turn into OpenHAKs, but we would only have the display add on as the vibe motor add on does not exist.

Stay tuned to this forum, as we may announce a small batch for sale this Fall.

Are there going to be any more for sale? I am highly interested in buying one.

It warms my heart to hear you say that!

Right now, the entire project is based on a Simbley which does not exist. Putting the code to a new radio module and redesigning the hardware is not trivial. there may be a chance that a handful of them could get made out of lab sweepings in early 2020. If I can get around to do that I will post here on this forum.

We did try to run a crowdfunding campaign last year, but it didn't go anywhere. it may be possible to relaunch that on a different platform it would be more likely to fund.

I think it's important that you have a big list of interested people before launch. That means building up e-mail lists with interested people. Maybe you can set up a form (Google Form?) on your website for interested people (with a small privacy policy saying what you'll use those e-mails for, due to GDPR) to sign up for news?

Then if you launch another crowdfunding attempt, you can reach all those people from the start, to get an initial set of orders and to spread the word.

You should also try to reach the hacker/maker communities before or at launch (e.g. through platforms like Hackaday, or the hackerspaces.org mailing list). Maybe try to get some interviews with famous youtubers that do cool electronics hacking. Crowdfunding without some kind of "marketing" won't work :)

Well, we (Leif and I) had been working on the project for about 3 years on and off. Then the opportunity to build it as the badge for Biohacking Village made us think that it would be a good time to coordinate a crowdfunding campaign... Also a good idea NOT to launch a crowdfunding campaign in August...

Hello, just wanted to register my interest in this as well! Didn't hear about this until just now, but might be interested in joining a potential new crowdfunding :)

If you guys ever did want help with this I could lend a hand, I'm a relatively recent EE grad but I wouldn't mind lending a hand.

Also if not I'm pretty interested in this. The current fitness/diet app/tracker I use is heavily closed source so I can't make my own hardware for it like I want to, already had passwords leak once so I really shouldn't be using it.

The OpenHAK looks pretty neat, I'd be interested in buying one (using closed source to measure one's health simple not sustainable).

Few quetions:
* The datasheet of the MAX30101 showed that it can read blood oxidation. Is that true? It would be kinda cool, especially as that data might make a difference in case of a respitory disease

* Can OpenHAK do HRV?

* What is the projected battery life? Or the life of prototypes?

Cheers!

Hello,
I'd like to register my interest too! Please keep me updated if you start a new crowdfunding or there are units for sale.

The MAX30101 can do SpO2 measurements. It requires an algorithm. You can learn more by looking at the sparkfun arduino library
Yes, the OpenHAK can do HRV. It is not implemented, but any reliable heartbeat detector can do HRV as well.

We shoot for battery life of ~3 days with optimum power cycling and sleep.
The OpenHAK will also store up to 3 days of data in flash, and is set to upload all un sent data to the phone when connected.
All samples, are epoc stamped.

Thanks for your interest!
As we are in this strange COVID time, there may be a window of opportunity to have more available this summer.
I know there are a few in my lab, which I have access to, but they need troubleshooting.
It may be worth it to put up a funding campaign on one of the open hardware specific funding platforms.

By subscribing to this group, you will always get the latest and greatest news.
Also, we do have a twitter for you to follow

Thank you for the answers! This kind of data could be really useful! The other design parameters (3 days, data send, physical size) also look sensible _b

If you do a funding campaign, I would be interested to get one protype :>

Cheers!

I'm super interested in this!  I would definitely contribute to a kickstarter type campaign for this (sorry I missed the first one).

Also willing to contribute on the software side with the mobile apps. Have plenty of mobile experience and would be extra motivated to build a flutter version.

As am I.  I'm guessing the order form is still the best way to go?  Or is everything kind of on hiatus during the pandemic?

For all the people looking for an open source fitness tracker / smartwatch, please also check out the PineTime: https://www.pine64.org/pinetime/
It already has quite a large community behind it, with different firmware options. (Note that so far only development kits and no sealed watches are available, so you need to glue it together after flashing.)
