I just installed the 2.0 alpha and tested the lifx binding a little.

I really like the new discovery feature.
This makes openhab very simple to use!

But I have a few questions about the binding or the Paper UI.

The "THINGS" are displayed good in "Configuration".
But in "Configuration|ITEMS" they are just labled with their ID.
In "Control" this gets really messy, because the bulbs are listed here only with their ID, too.
Unless I learn the ID of each bulb I don't know wich bulb I am controlling right now. :(

I also don't understand why there are "Groups" for each bulb (again labled with the ID).

Maybe because there should be a lighttemperature-item for each bulb, too?
Like the hue binding?

I think both bindings should generate the same items

The controlling of the bulbs via Paper UI works great and really fast!
To use this with my existing OH1.6 I tried to use the REST interface.

It seems to be the right syntax. (I get no error)
But nothing happens. :(
Is the REST interface even fully integrated yet?

Hi Christoph,

Thanks for your feedback!

You should note that we declared the Paper UI a „technology prototype“ so far and nothing more.
There are good reasons, why it has not been even yet contributed to the official openHAB 2 repo.

The fact that the items are labelled with technical IDs is definitely something not acceptible for the user - and also very much against the openHAB philosophy as such.

We are currently working on REST APIs for labels, icons etc. that are independent of a sitemap definition. So far the focus was on the setup process, i.e. inbox management and thing configuration. The „control“ UI part will take a bit longer.

Note that you can use LIFX in it a similar way as you are used in openHAB 1:

Simply define your own „Color“ item and link it through a „channel“ in your *.items file:

Color MyLIFXBulb „Labeltext“ { channel=„lifx:light:D073D5****:color“ }

This should make it available as a usual item that you can use in sitemaps and thus through the Classic UI.

Best regards,
Kai
