Hi,

Just found an interesting product and wanted to post it to the list
for the record.
I think some day we need to make a samsung smart tv binding ;-)

Hi,

Should I build a remote connection for you? :-) But probably my wife
will hate you testing this binding :-)))

Hi,

Do I look like as a typical person you call a 'sponsor'? :-)

Hi,

But I would love to sponsor somebody to make an openhab-style
transparent icon for rain! I badly need it for my rain sensor :-)

Hi,

I am very new to OpenHAB (stumbled into it [again] yesterday, will install ASAIC) so, I cannot really quote on the effort to be taken.

I was (still am) a user if IP-Symcon and have implemented the Panasonic-control into my PHP Scripts.

From what I have seen from OpenHAB so far, I would say you need no binding because you send all the commands to the Pana as IP-Sockets. One BIG issue remains: you cannot wake the TV up by IP commands. Once powered off(even though the TV is in sleep mode only) it will not react on no command via IP, so, you need either dirty tricks (switch if off from power cord by an actuator) or a IR device to send the "power" IR code.

Let me know if I can be of any help.

Regards
J.

Hi Karel,

das klingt gut. Ich wollte mir gerade ein irtrans bestellen.
Geht das dann mit allen Modellen (USB, Wifi...) oder muss ich ein bestimmtes nehmen, damit es sich steuern lässt?

So far I have developed the binding using the LAN version of the irtrans device. Wifi should work obviously, for any other device a new binding has to be created because the underlying protocol will be different from Ethernet

Also, so far it only supports the standard infrared codes, so no raw codes nor the Philips Pronto-style codes.

Are you still investigating a Samsung Smart TV binding / integration?

I have found a partial protocol description (reverse engineered) of how to interact with the TV. It is rather straight forward

I must admit that the Samsung TV's are really cool devices, with the facial recognition stuff and so forth.

I've investigated  the possibility of integrating openhab and a samsung controll. there is a possibility to send commands on port 55000 to the samsung tv. All commands one can find on a remote can besend to the TV.  There is also a upnp interface to controll the TV but I havn't found a description what can be done via upnp.
Anyone found more informations on how to control the samsung TV via upnp?

Want do you mean with "the provl of switching on"

For upnp one can rather easily do some reverse engineering ( done it for the sonos binding which is also entirely ipnp based)

I have already implemented binding for Samsung TV's. See more information: Issue 152: Samsung TV binding. Controlling is done via Samsung proprietary protocol (port 55000) not UPNP. Some samsung TV models seems to support UPNP as well. Some information about controlling samsung via UPNP could be found here.

As far I know, any of the Samsung TV models could not be set ON remotely. Samsung shutdown the Ethernet chip when power is off, so it will not listening any command from Ethernet, obviously WOL does not work either. Thats really shame. Before I buy my TV, I tried to find TV which could be set ON, but I didn't find any. Reason probably is the regulation about the idle time power consumption.

Binding could be found from my clone repo. Currently binding support only Switch and String items.

Examples:

Config:

samsungtv:LivingRoom.host=10.0.0.1
#samsungtv:LivingRoom.port=55000

samsungtv:BedRoom.host=10.0.0.2
#samsungtv:BedRoom.port=55000

Items examples:
Switch chup  {samsungtv="LivingRoom:KEY_CHUP"}
Switch chdown {samsungtv="LivingRoom:KEY_CHDOWN"}
String tvcontrol {samsungtv="BedRoom"}

Command examples:
openhab send chup ON
openhan send tvcontrol KEY_POWEROFF

Can it be set on by regular infrared?

I think your binding should be in the official distro?

Just my few cents to add - from experiences I have with Samsung TV and other home servers where I successfully intergrated the Samsung TV's into domotic projects:

The Ethernet Adapter is switched off a few minutes after a "power off-command" (either infrared or TCP) and then is not accessible anymore.

HOWEVER there is a trick to "surround" this behaviour:

If you switch off the POWER ( I mean the outlet that supplies the TV with 220V / 110V), then, after switching ON the power again, the TV goes to "startup mode" again and therefor can (again) be controlled by TCP.

Therefor, just do NOT use the poweroff command, instead, use a switcheable outlet (such as a radio controlles plug or an KNX controlled outlet) to switch off the TV.

The only problem "unsolveable": If the user uses the IR to switch offf the TV, it might go into the full standby and then is inaacessible thru TCP.

Guys,

I am integrating samsung TV with openHab 1.4 and it is not working. My TV name is the openHab.cfg file is Livingroom. I want to group all TV commands under GF_Living_TV.

My Items file is :

Group All
Group gGF         (All)

Group GF_Living     "Living Room"     <video>     (gGF)
Group GF_Living_TV     "Living Room TV"    <video>    (GF_Living)

Dimmer Light_GF_Living_Table         "Table"         (GF_Living, Lights)
Switch Light_GF_Living_Ceiling         "Ceiling"         (GF_Living, Lights)

Dimmer        GF_Living_TV_Channel    {samsungtv="INCREASE:Livingroom:KEY_CHUP, DECREASE:Livingroom:KEY_CHDOWN"}    (GF_Living_TV)
Switch        mute           {samsungtv="ON:Livingroom:KEY_MUTE, OFF:Livingroom:KEY_MUTE"}
Rollershutter volume         {samsungtv="UP:Livingroom:KEY_VOLUP, DOWN:Livingroom:KEY_VOLDOWN"}

Hy there,

You must ahve a look to the basics of items definition. You are missing an item name to be shown and the group has to be defined like this in front of the {

Dimmer        GF_Living_TV_Channel  "Channel" (GF_Living_TV)  {samsungtv="INCREASE:Livingroom:KEY_CHUP, DECREASE:Livingroom:KEY_CHDOWN"}
Switch        mute                              "Mute"     (GF_Living_TV)  {samsungtv="ON:Livingroom:KEY_MUTE, OFF:Livingroom:KEY_MUTE"}
Rollershutter volume                         "Volume"  (GF_Living_TV)  {samsungtv="UP:Livingroom:KEY_VOLUP, DOWN:Livingroom:KEY_VOLDOWN"}

Hi,

I also have a problem communicating with my Samsung TV. When I send any command I get this at openhab log:

Hi Victor,

It seems that TV send "access denied" reply. Have you accepted connection from TV menu?

Are you able to control your TV by iOS or android remote?

Could you enable debug logging to samsung tv binding to get more information.

When you send a command for Openhab, The TV will prompt you on the screen for you to allow. This happens only the first time, you need to accept it.

Check AllShare options from the TV menu. On my TV, it can be found from Menu -> Network -> AllShare options.

What is the TV model?

Hi,

It worked! Would you mind adding this to wiki page of samsung binding? Probably I somehow missed the initial request and openHAB was marked as 'deny' in the list. So probably it is good to mention on the wiki that TV should ask for permission on the first request and so on...
