OPC UA in open HAB

Hi,
I'm new to openhab, but very interessted in building automatisation with devices from different manufactores.

Currently I am writting on a thesis about OPC UA, which is a standardized protokoll for communication between control devices (i.e. PLC) from different manufactures, supported from Siemens, Beckhoff, etc.

I am asking me, if there may be plans to implement OPC or OPC UA to openhab?
If yes, how I could help...

Hi Franz/all,

i'm also interested to combine TCP IO Modules like the Moxa IO's with openhab.
I think a good solution can be such a coupling over OPC UA,
this opens a wide spreed of usable PLC devices without need of too much customising.

In openhab i'm also very new (i make first experiments with openhab), what is in the moment the suggested
way for using tcp io modules like moxa io's or had anybody a different suggestion for tcp io's
and ideally a example to use with openhab?

Hi,

Karel is working on a generic TCP/UDP binding, which we will integrate into the development head pretty soon (see http://code.google.com/p/openhab/issues/detail?id=33).

So for TCP-based protocols, this might be a good starting point.

i need to setup first a environment which allows me to make tests with the Components.
The components are in delivery queue.

I also neet to start "playing" with openhab - my opc ua test environment is more or less ready, but I still need to learn to understand openhab.
