Hi,

Has anybody already come across https://code.google.com/p/moquette-mqtt/?
I wonder if this is an MQTT broker that could be integrated into openHAB - and thus making an out-of-the-box connection between multiple openHAB instances possible.

Does any of the MQTT experts have an opinion?

Regards,
Kai

Hi Kai,

I haven't used it myself.  There are currently some discussions happening on the Eclipse Paho mailing list about the need for having a eclipse Java MQTT broker and it seems that everyone agrees there should be a Paho Java broker. Moquette was mentioned as one of the possible starting points for this.  It might take a while before there is an official paho Java broker though...

Kind regards,
Davy

Hi Davy,

Thanks for the info! Sounds as if that might then be a good candidate for adapting for the Eclipse SmartHome project!

Regards,
Kai

Hi Andrea,

Thanks for getting in touch! Great to see that moquette is evolving, it is indeed an interesting project :-)
Could you share some light on the rumors that Davy mentioned before regarding discussions with the Paho project? Is there any chance that you will work together or will they go for their own Java broker from scratch instead?

Best regards,
Kai

Hi Kai,
Great to know that there are some interest around moquette! Unfortunaetly I can't say anything about the rumors about Paho broker and moquette involvement because I never get in touch with the Paho project devs, but I'm open to discuss about this.

Best reagrds

Hi Andrea,

Ok, so as you didn’t know anything, I tried to get some information :-)
What I found out is that there is no Java MQTT broker at Eclipse and that the guys there would very much welcome a Java implementation of a broker - see there responses here: http://dev.eclipse.org/mhonarc/lists/paho-dev/msg01213.html

Could you imagine moving your project to the Eclipse Foundation? I personally think that such a move would give it a lot of publicity as the M2M space at Eclipse has a big momentum currently.

What ever you think about this - for openHAB, Moquette is in any case interesting and I could imagine to include it for remote evening aspects.

Best regards,
Kai

Hi Kai,
thank you for your interest! Also in my opinion the Eclipse Foundation could be a great opportunity for moquette project.
Which is the roadmap to move the project under the M2M space at Eclipse? That's a great idea!

 Best Regards

All,

Here is some great news: Andrea has proposed Moquette as an Eclipse project: https://projects.eclipse.org/proposals/moquette-mqtt
Congratulations, Andrea!
I will definitely try to get Moquette into Eclipse SmartHome. So in openHAB 2.0, we could possibly have an integral MQTT broker, which would make all setups with MQTT binding and persistence service much easier as it would not require any external broker anymore.

Best regards,
Kai

Hi Roger,
thanks for your interest into Moquette. The main method coul be found in Server.java class (in the broker subproject) while in the distribution subproject, in the moquette.sh you find the command line used in the distribution version to launch the broker.

 Regards
  Andrea
