Hi all,

Hopefully I', not driving the developers crazy with my suggestion...

There will be important EU level IT Policy meetings in Sweden next month

First in Visby 9.11 - 10.11
http://www.se2009.eu/en/meetings_news/2009/11/9/visby_agenda_creating_impact_for_an_eunion_2015

And then the big hit in Malmö
http://www.se2009.eu/en/meetings_news/2009/11/18/ministerial_egovernment_meeting_and_conference

I have talked to the finnish delegates of both conferences and there
might be a chance to get really good positive nordic co-operation and
publicity for the theme of open data. But of course... only seeing is
believing, that's why I ask if it is possible to have the opengov.fi
site up and running this quicly. Personally I can enter the first fifty
data entries there :)

There is also a nice declaration that will be promoted in the
ministerial meeting, please read:

and endorse

Hi!

That shouldn't be unreasonable if you want to release the current
feature set. I host opengov.se at http://djangohosting.ch/ (starting
at EUR 4/month) and it is very easy to set up. I will gladly share my
deployment script (using fabric) for that too.

Suggestions:

- Deploy the current code base (with a new logo of course) as soon as possible.
- Start entering datasets
- Translate all templates to Finnish at the same time.

This will give you time to promote it in Finland and get feedback.
Also, add one or two blog entries with tips for people working at
agencies etc.

Regards,

Peter

Hello.

I'd like to see the Fabric script, please. It would be excellent to
have automatic deployment scripts. I have read many good things about
Fabric, but have yet to find the time to test it..

We do have the site running on a server already. I have been doing the
translations on that (and version control).

It's not just the templates, the code too. I try to get everything
done on the weekend, but I can only offer my best guess for swedish to
english translation.. :(

Apart from that we are pretty much ready for the first phase (so to
speak..). I leave it to others to decide upon publishing schedule and
such.

Best,
Jussi

Ok! I'll put in a version in the repo for people to get started with. A lot of it depends on how the target platform is set up, but it would be fairly easy to change it to your environment I guess.

Great! Go Finland!

Ok. Just a quick summary so that everybody knows the status of the
Finnish site.

- Antti Poikola and anyone interested can start adding data sources
right away.
- Some translation tags are still missing from the application source
code.
- After either Peter or Jussi has tagged all relevant strings in the
source code, all interested
participants in Finland should check the actual Finnish UI
translations in the .po file in the repository to make sure they are
correct, understandable, and usable. And we should check the English
strings as well.
- The Finnish team should also check the current English site content
(a few pages of static, introductory text content for foreign site
visitors)
which is currently identical to the Swedish site's content.

We can publish the .fi-site as soon as these are done.

Regarding the Finnish translations: we should discuss controversial/
difficult terms together, what's the best forum for that? Not email,
that's for sure! Maybe we can start a new thread here. For example,
what's a data set in Finnish??
