I've started developing a furry chat application, and... while doing so... i just happened to remember this group.
What protocol does this chat service use? Is it distributed? Encrypted? How difficult would it be for me to develop my own client?
It is based on websockets, right now is centralyced but im in the base of it anyways. I've coded the server on php using a library that currently does not supports the encrypted websockets, but i plan on doing a java or c something server at some point.
It wont be too hard to make a client as long as you know the few specific things of the chat protocol and you use some libraries for json and websocket.
Finally, what makes a chat application "furry"?
Nothing make a chat application specifically furry, but, i planned on adding some of the media functionalities that msn had and furry community is basically media based. Plus i came across the idea with a furry friend that is studying about programming and offered to help me with the project at some point
The idea is to bring ideas of interesting apps for the furry community and bringing them here, so developers could bring that ideas to live.
I keep working on the chat project, slowly, on my free times, so some day i may bring news about it over here if anyone wants to hear of it again xD
I love implementing protocols, but I've already got a fully functional IRC client. Your protocol would have to offer some kind of advantage over IRC.
User friendliness and easy file and media sharing is planned right now. I've never been a fan of IRC so i don't know much about it
It would support groups, private chats and contact lists, like most chat protocols
Right now im working on an android app for the currently working server code and have a pretty simple web chat interface
