Allright... now as an idea, and at the point this is centered on furry comunity... applications for FA, DA, and others, as pointed by someone somewere.
And... thats all... hope this thread becomes usefull and not another duscussion thread about "whats the point of this?" becouse its meant to help find points for it
Hrm. Furries. Well the only furry thing I do on my computer is browse
furry websites with Firefox and organize a bunch of, ahem, "mature
images" I store in a messy folder.
Three larger-than-life projects that could come into existence could be:
1) A set of Firefox add-ons that make using common furry websites
(FA, SF etc) a touch easier, sort of like how the Reddit Enhancement
Suite works with Reddit.
2) Some funky modified version of Shotwell or something, better
designed to managing large, large, collections of images. Might have
the ability to encrypt and compress a collection into a single
portable file for instance, or feature e621-esqe tagging search. I
dunno.
3) A command line program like wget that acts like a home-based
image meta search engine, querying all the major & minor art storage
sites for images. I cannot tell you how much it sucks as furry to have
to search site by site by site to get a good selection of pics. I
mean, that can't be that hard to make, right? Right? Please?
So like, basically, I'm saying - furries are addicted to media and the
internet. In fact, as a furry, I'm using the internet right now. But
the one bad thing about the internet is that it's HARD. Real hard.
Media is the same, all scattered across the nets and disorganized. So
to get the furries interested let's make a bunch of internet related
utilities and media management tools. Stuff that sucks all that
goodnes off the net and onto our screens, things that act like slave
janitors cleaning up after our 5-hour long spate of image
rightclick-save'ing, and things that make talking with my "furiends"
as quick and natural as minimizing a window and focusing on the
desktop.
I want the internet and I want all the media, and I want it now. 'Nuff said.

Their was a plugin for FA a while back that added a button to allow you to do the same as "SAVE IMAGE AS..." but i don't know the current status of it. Also fair warning, people will bitch about that being the furry version of Blackbird (A version of Firefox preloaded with stuff for the African-American community).

Interesting idea. Improved image tagging might be something that would be very helpful.

This is a nice idea, but people will say "just uses google images and Boolean tagging, don't try to compete with search engines."

Why not, its allways kind of dissapointing to have to go and search several places, plus most of the people doesent knows how to use google.

Why not, its allways kind of dissapointing to have to go and search several places, plus most of the people doesent knows how to use google.True. I should have asked how exactly how you think we should do that. Add in a quick way to use an existing meta search engine like dogpile to pull from all the all the major ones. Craft something like a Cricetida 2.0 that pulls from sites like FA, SF. Sites that don't require a login to verify age, thus providing mature results to minors, would not be up for inclusion in the PPA version. Such function, if ever included, would have to be in the form of a package on the site behind one of those "Enter your Birthday" things, but likely seeing how the current view is to make the OS clean that is unlikely to happen. Sites that only output clean art or that output clean art to unverified users are fine. Outputting mature results from sites that require a login to logged in users is okay as well. If you have a way to limit the results of non-login non-clean sites to provide only clean output and not link to the page on the non-clean site (as most non-clean sites have non-clean ads) that might work. Just saying because i know someone will ask about adding a dirty image site they really like if we did that.Remember it is okay for stuff to have adult functions but they must not be accessible to kids.
i know theaming is not what specifically makes an os furry. but not
all furries are that deep into being a furry. for instance i love the
imagery! my google email has a furry on the background. and i loved
the way ufurmix ended up looking. and yes i did prefer using ufurmix
not only doe to its theaming but the programs that already came
installed in it (the iso) like that sound converter that lets you
convert a stack of files to another (i used it to change all my music
to ogg, it open my computer so much space) or like the wine already
installed (im too impatient on how slow it installs :P ) but what made
it to the record was that beta program/script that was only on the dev
folder, the script that could fetch the entire gal of an artist on fa.
since not everyone is as savy with coding we could have some do themeing.
- i mean themeing has a big posibility and im not saying that themeing
is the only thing important here. i remember a concept we had for the
theming that it would allow the user to chose it's species and the the
theme would change accordingly (we thought of it asking on the login
screen like ubuntu asks what desktop manager it uses) and maybe fur
the boot make it universal: like a bunch of different animals coming
into a group from out of the screen. dragons, lions, and bears, oh and
foxes too (see what i did there?)
for a start it should not hurt to just theme. but we can't just theme
for ever ether. but as Rooks Owl pointed it out (and let me say i love
the idea of the gallery manager (maybe have it sort it from like
author to species, mature likings and stuff)

Well it could be better than by installing a pakage throught the options of the app, like google makes with its results.
As a search engine, it can not be 100% asured that all the content is child safe, as we are not the content owners, and we wont have the control over the contents.
We could try to make it safe for childrens, and with the option to take out the safety for the naughty ones; maybe with parental control to block it? just ideas

Its a good idea, with a graphical ui would be cool for common users
since not everyone is as savy with coding we could have some do themeing.

Well or get a pet for the os... or maybe even the whole openfur, and use that on the boot screen, maybe even making lately a graphical UI with several other species or the ability to change it with any image they have on the comp?

Yep, maybe, but a gallery its a really complicated application, so we should start with something we can manage so far, as the theming thing, and go from there forward and refine the idea of the gallery manager and other apps that come to mind
We could even do the search engine and the theming at the same time, becouse theming its more artists job and search engine its more programers job
