Hi all,

I have the ambition to create an E-commerce startup that will become the N.1 lifestyle retailer in Southeast Asia. Singapore or Thailand may be the starting point. As the business will require quickly funding to support its day to day operations, expansion, marketing... angel investors would then be most welcome. Is there anyone who could share a list of investors/organizations to contact?

Thank you,
Best,
Andre

You can think of investors as selling your business acumen ... and like all sales you need to understand the customer, what an angel contemplates, selection criteria for various accelerators, traits VCs look for, etc. As such, you need to either make sure your basic premise fits within their framework or else have (or are producing) a track record that commands attention.

If in Singapore, groups such as ACE
are starting point as many other entrepeneurs have gone before you. I'd also note in general that Singapore tends to follow a capital-lite model in that they don't fund indefinite operational losses so your first resource should be your founder savings and what can be achieved with friends family. Then that gives you the timeframe for what you spend and expect to produce to show traction for the next stage.

On the business side, you'd have to figure out the trends in on-offline e-commerce, and what part of the value-chain you want to occupy. Successful firms in Singapore have focused on certain devops aspects such as logistics or financing (discounts) whilst SE are more segment oriented (see https://kintu.co/ecommerce-asia/) such as beauty/health. As a fairly competitive space, you have to figure out a compelling story that forms the basis of sustained value creation that will attract investors. Most of the dumb-money has been taken out of play by the ICO pump-dump of 2018 so you can't just wave hand and say #1 lifestyle without some concrete plans to realise the goal. The mainstream market in Thailand is quite different from that of Singapore so I hope you've done your homework.
