Was at EV meeting yesterday in Santa Anna.
One person with a leaf had troubles charging at L2.
using openevse it would fail with diode check.
Using the display, we were able to disable the diode check and get it to charge.
Now he has to figure out how/where to replace the diode on his L2 charger.
I thought it was really nice that we were able to bypass that (necessary!) diode check to diagnose the problem.

Thanks for making an awesome evse charger with so much flexibility.

Actually, the diode that it’s checking for is in the car, not the EVSE.

Yes. There is something more complicated going on here. The diode is in the EV car.

I would check the ground connection from the J1772 plug is connected to ground in the EVSE. And more likely the problem is the ground wire from the OpenEVSE controller to the same ground block in the EVSE.

Did I suggest something else ?
" Now he has to figure out how/where to replace the diode on his L2 charger."

Meant to say : the L2 charger _in his car_

Sorry if it sounded confusing.
The people diagnosing the problem were/are aware the diode is in the car.

Cool. Sounds like a nice meeting of like minded EV friends.

I actually spoke to 2 persons involved in the original EV1 project.
imho doesn't get better than that ;-)

OK, because you said “replace the diode in his L2 charger” .. I thought you meant the diode in the EVSE, not the onboard charger (some people incorrectly refer to EVSE’s as chargers). Just wanted to make sure you understood correctly (which you did).

I always refer to an evse as an intelligent extension cord needed to enable the onboard charger in the car ;-)
