New to firmware

Hello guys, I am new to openevse but I have a desire to built a openevse ,so I thought I should start with the version 1 of the evse, I have achieved making the hardware part but I don't know how to make a hex code for the openevse from the given firmware.Actually I only need the code that for the open evse's version one but the code that given is for the latest version so how would I edit the code to make fit for the version one.I tried many times by editing the code however I failed .I want to know which part of code I should remove and which all I should retain.Please teach me guys ,thank youu
