Clockwork Princess is an intriguing fantasy novel written by teenage adult author, Clare Diogenes. It's the final installment of The Infernal series, following on from the first novel, Clockwork Angel. Although I wasn't really blown away by the first few chapters (the story is too short to interest me beyond the first couple of chapters), I definitely gained interest once I read through the entire novel. I especially found the detailed descriptions of the world and the history of her magic a lot more exciting than I was expecting.

What really stands out about this book is how seamlessly everything fits together. As you are introduced to the characters and their circumstances, you are told just enough to keep the story intriguing, but not so much that it loses the intricate, detailed world building that made the previous books so captivating. That kind of detail takes some of the edge off time travel, and even though I'm still a little bit leery of time travel, I was thoroughly entertained by the way Clare seamlessly integrates the concept with modern-day Egypt. In fact, the time travel itself is what initially draws me to the book in the first place: seeing so many similarities between present-day Egypt and ancient Egypt, combined with the fact that the modern-day setting is partially inspired by ancient stories. As you read through the book (and even while you are reading it), you begin to realize that the details of each event are shaped by those events from the past.
The story is also told through the point of view of each character. Each character has a unique viewpoint, telling a tale that is unique to them. What this means for the overall story is that you start to develop your own character and story through the main character's point of view. This style of point of view can be a very effective method of developing your plot, since it gives you the freedom to develop the story however you see fit.
