Hi everyone,

There's a plan to have an Egyptian competition for college students to contribute/create FOSS with potential prizes and similar stuff. I would like to hear from you about ideas to put for the students to choose from.

Any idea is highly appreciated.

Hello,

What about focusing on contributing to live project, one with short life cycle in accept or reject the contributions to see the results quickly which will
- show example of how they could contribute in live project
- and the students will get the feeling of accomplishment when they see there contributions as part from live project

best regards.

I'd +1 What Eslam said.
Starting with official contributions to an already existing software will be of a great push and experience. This experience can make a good base of students and experts to start a new software with "high standards".

May I ask who is controlling or making this? You said there is a plan but did not specify who planned - or who is sponsoring the prizes if it's no a commercial plan?
