Hello, all.

I installed Open edX for the first time yesterday.  It's the latest version provided by Bitnami, and was installed using the Bitnami installer.  It worked "out-of-the-box" but, and with all due respect, the documentation isn't great.  I'd like to edit the landing page to look a bit more like edx.org (or, at least, remove the "Donate" link, fill in the "About" link, etc).  I have no idea how to accomplish this.  Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Diggy

I'm only new to this, however as I understand it, you can change the "Marketing Links"

Check out his link

I remember reading somewhere, that if you set the value to null, the link is removed.

So in your case:

'DONATE': null,

In regards to changing content you are best to do this as a theme.

This link give the latest info on that:

However if you are using the bitnami image, you are not yet using Eucalyptus (Please correct me if I'm wrong on that)

I think this is the relative link for your version:

Hope it helps

Luke

Luke,

Thanks a million for your response.

Alas, what I find is that the documentation refers to files that I can't find in my edX instance.  For example, in https://github.com/edx/edx-platform/wiki/Alternate-site-for-marketing-links, I should edit settings.py for lms.  Trouble is, I can't find a settings.py.  I can see the great potential in Open Edx, put it's far from trivial to customize.  I image that Bitnami's version makes that even more so.

Anyway, I'm still banging at this, and more suggestions are welcomed.

Dimitri,

If you're working on Eucalyptus.2 I recommend you to use comprehensive theming for editing the LMS (the landing page) this article may help you to figure out how to do it.

The reason of using Comprehensive theming is because Open EDX is currently migrating to that theming method instead the stanford or other theming methods used in the present.

Greetings.

Sorry to rejoin this post so late ... other IT duties to attend to.

The best I can determine is that this Bitnami Open edX  version (latest available) is Dogwood.  Also, the best that I can determine is that upgrading isn't easy, if possible at all.  If anyone has upgraded this version to Eucalyptus, I'd appreciate knowing how.  In the meantime, I guess I have to use Stanford theming (yes, it's a question)?  If so, are there good tutorials out there?

Many thanks.

Dimitri
