Hello, I attempted to follow the instructions at https://openedx.atlassian.net/wiki/display/OpenOPS/Native+Open+edX+Ubuntu+12.04+64+bit+Installation
for the automated installation on a new VPS server running Ubuntu 12.04 on a 64 bit system. It didn't work.

I went to the troubleshooting guide and the first thing wrong is that nginx did not even get installed.

Also during installation I got this message:

 failed: [localhost] => {"changed": true, "cmd": ["swapon", "/swapfile"], "delta": "0:00:00.001351", "end": "2016-12-07 15:33:52.257944", "rc": 255, "start": "2016-12-07 15:33:52.256593", "warnings": []}
stderr: swapon: /swapfile: swapon failed: Operation not permitted

FATAL: all hosts have already failed -- aborting

Not sure if I should restart.

Also, do I need to point a domain to the IP address for this to work?

Any help would be appreciated.

It seems that some VPS providers are really enforcing their "RAM limit" policy:
http://www.serveridol.com/2014/08/03/how-do-i-create-swap-partition-in-linux-mkswap-operation-not-permitted/
It means that your VPS server has some RAM limitations and for the
provider, adding a swap file (simulating RAM using the file system) is
against their rules.
So you probably need to upgrade your vps or use another one to install Open edX

Hi,

whenever you install Linux VM make sure you have to select LVM(logical volume management), so you won't get this kind of problems.

It will ask you during installation of Ubuntu.
