Hi Opendpi/ipoque,

can we do the bandwidth management with the open dpi?

If yes how this can be done with a stand alone linux machine.
up to what band width we can limit for some particular applications.

Thanks,
Sneha

Hello Sneha,

OpenDPI can be used to classifiy traffic.

After having classified the traffic, traffic management could be done, but this is not processed by OpenDPI.

Note that OpenDPI does not detect encrypted traffic. If you want to manage encrypted bittorrent or skype, this is not possible with the help of OpenDPI. In this case, I recommend to use ipoque's PACE engine. ipouqe also has a traffic manager PRX, which uses PACE as foundation.

Best Regards,

Katrin

Dear Katrin,

Thanks for your response.
Does Ipoque's PACE engine provide bandwidth management along with classification of the traffic?
what is this prx?can I get the detail specification for this?

Can we manage non encrypted traffic with open dpi?what is the purpose of open dpi and how it is useful?

Other then Skype and Bittorrent in network many other encrypted traffic is there. How about that?
How much percentage of network traffic can be classified with PACE engine at L7 layer(application wise).

Thanks,
Sneha

Hi Sneha,

PACE is the commercial version of OpenDPI and the PRX is a traffic manager. You can get detailed information about ipoque's products PACE, PRX on www.ipoque.com . If you need further information do not hesitate to contact me.

OpenDPI can classify unencrypted traffic. With the help of the classification engine you can proceed e.g. with managing the traffic.

PACE can also classify encrypted Skype and Bittorrent and olso other encrypted traffic e.g. OpenVPN, Ultrasurf, Ares, MagicJack, eDonkey etc. Depending on network behaviour, PACE classifies between 90 and 94 % of the traffic.

Best Regards,

Katrin
