Hi all,

We've had some great coverage on Hacker News and TechCrunch in the last couple of days, e.g.: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=6232422

Through this, we've had suggestions for new designs, including ideas for a standing desk, chairs, storage units, etc.  What I wanted to do here is create a thread for further suggestions and to discuss potential new designs.

So, if you have ideas for how we should extend the range, or references for great designs elsewhere, please do post here.

Thanks,

James.

Hi!

First, awesome idea :)

One thing I missed is an individual workstation desk. Something like the Desk, but with one side only and half the size.

Love the concept - and job very well done.

What I'd like to see, is a height adjustable desk. Something as simplistic as your current range, mixed with the simplicity of the desk from Kibisi/Holmris. XTable: http://www.dezeen.com/2012/10/26/xtable-desk-by-kibisi/

First of all great initiative, this opensource way of working.
And second; me too I really like the idea of an individual workstation desk, derived from the double one which has a great design.

Cheers,

Another vote for an adjustable or standing desk. Some shelving, or something to hold shelves, might also be great.

I would like to propose a cnc furniture range of furniture (2007) i have made for Shopbot Inc for the n°1 NY Makefaire : Ekkoflex range. The idea is to use the same standard element to make a lot of different type of furniture. The concept is to clip 2 wood plates to hold accessories. Holes pattern are filled with colored plastic plates. Have a look :

Yep, an adjustable standing desk is what I'm in the market for at the moment.
I love the design of the current 2 sided meeting desk as an example.

Hi Pierre,

I love the Nomad chair that you developed and would love to make a couple for my daughter. I notice that you have published them under creative commons licence. Is there somewhere that I can get drawings for this chair?

Best wishes....Stuart

Hi all,

I would like to propose my own design: a CNC cut plywood chair with no need of glue or fixation bolts, just clipping the parts by pressure fitting. The plywood thickness I used for the prototype is 15 mm but could be easily modified. Here s the link:

Thanks

Hi Jose,

Thank you for sharing this with us!

FYI, did you know that there now is a Studio section on the Opendesk website where you can upload your designs?
Users can indicate if they "want" a product to be included in the Opendesk design collection and this is an indicator of potential sales as well.

Cheers
Ian

Cool, thanks for the suggestion I did uploaded it at Opendesk Studio Section, lets see how it works!

One question, at what stage is possible to decide the design to be published under CC license?

Here is my WikiSketchBed and the laser cut model.  Still needs some work.  The legs are too weak.

Hi Ian,

I tried uploading a design and it doesn't appear to work.  Just takes me back to the "you haven't shared and designs yet" screen.  Help?

I am a first time user/poster in this group so forgive me if this isn't the right place for this question. I've been looking for some CNC plans for drawer units that might be modified and added to some of your plans (like you desks). It seems like something that could be made fairly easily (just a couple of nesting boxes after all). I think this type of module would add even more function to your already excellent designs. Maybe they are out there and I'm just not looking in the right place?
Thanks - JimC

Hi Jim,

Anything in the http://atfab.co library?  If not, you could see what you could dig up on Thingyverse?  We are aiming to add more storage units, so would be great to see anything you find.

James.

Hello there :)

Thanks a lot for sharing such beautiful designs with the community. One thing that I want to suggest is that, I think it may be a nice and interesting idea to offer the option of integrating various electronics, like led lights, charging docks, beacon based interactions vs  vs ... to your designs. I would like to help if there is a need...

cheers

Hi Rifat,

Thanks for your continued support for Opendesk!

Last year we have experimented with hackathons around electronics and we shipped some electronic products integrated with our desks (like wireless charging modules and the Buro wireless data sync) and found that more people are interested.
This year we're planning to develop a few open source solutions which consist of open source electronic kits, code, instructions and desk/hardware design files; we're partnering with  Seeed Studio (www.seeed.cc) to create ready kits which people could order if they don't want to source the individual components by themselves.
It would be great if you could contribute to that!

Could you tell us a little bit more about yourself and your interests, as well as where you are based?

Thanks
Ian
