Bestiality Legal in Missouri
UpDate: 1999 MO General Assenbly refused to ban
bestiality.

JEFFERSON CITY - While lawmakers have kept gay sexual acts
illegal in Missouri, it is legal to have sex with an animal.
The absence of
a law that bans sexual contact with family pets and farm animals has gotten the
attention of one state lawmaker.
"This makes us look like a backward state,"
said Rep. Catherine Hanaway,R-Des Peres, who wants to ban the practice, known as
bestiality or zoophilia.
Her bill, which is attracting bi-partisan
support, would make it a felony to have or cause contact with an animal for
sexual gratification. Hanaway said she acted on behalf of constituents outraged
by the actions of a local man, George Willard of southwestern Missouri. Several
years ago Willard published a book about the joy of sex with animals. He even
appeared on British television with his companion, Pixel -- a pony. The two
shared a trailer before Willard's death last August.
About 20 of Hanaway's
colleagues have signed on as co-sponsors, but not without a few chuckles.
"I have heard every lewd and lascivious joke possible," Hanaway said.
The issue has a serious element, however. The Show-Me State is one of 26 states
without a ban. "Bestiality is a predictor and indicator of other criminal
activity," said
Claire Ponder, a spokesman for the Humane Society of the
United States, who said a history of bestiality is found in about 40 percent of
domestic violence cases. Rapists and serial killers often report having received
sexual gratification
by abusing animals, activists say. For example, a San
Francisco man was charged in 1998 with operating a "whips-and-chains sex
dungeon" where eels, anteaters and water buffalo were also abused.
Missouri did not allow the practice until 23 years ago, when a state law
encompassing sex with an animal or someone of the same gender was invalidated by
the courts. Lawmakers re-banned gay sex but never addressed the animal issue.
How common is this predilection and who partakes? Data is hard to come by, but,
if the Internet is any indicator, bestiality is not all that uncommon. The word
bestiality appeared in at least 135,885 webpages, according to a recent query on
one of the more popular Internet search engines. In addition, a recent study by
the Humane Society found more than 8,000 relevant Internet
sites -- one
claiming more than 46,000 visits per day.
The easy availability of this
type of pornography doesn't mean practitioners are willing to go on the record.
One opponent of the ban, who identified himself or herself only as "Great Dane,"
expressed an opposing view through an Internet bulletin board.
The bill is
in the Law Committee long enough and needs to go to the Senate so we can get
this bill passed.
This Bill (HB 1658) can be tracked on the Missouri
State Government Site at:http://www.house.state.mo.us/bills00/bills00/HB1658.htm
Amazingly,
two Doctors of Sociology from the University of Indiana are AGAINST laws making
sex with animals illegal!!
They just recently began a survey of zoophiles
(who engage in this activity) at the request of a friend who is one, they
have attempted to influence legislation in a different state, using a publically
funded University, making claims while their own study is no where near drawing
any conclusions.
The letter they mailed to each Missouri legislator,
and contact information can be viewed at: http://members.tripod.com/~judymyers/indiana.html
The
bill can use the support of Missouri residents, don't let two sociologists who
are *not* animal welfare/rights activists use their clout and publically
funded University services to stop pro-animal legislation that is needed.
It was obvious to me by the contents of their letter that they amazingly didn't
even READ the text of the bill before they fired off protest
letters!
The bill simply makes sex with animals for the
"gratification of any person" a crime, it does not mention "animal abuse" or
other issues as the Doctor's letters implied it did. Had they actually read the
bill they would have known this and not made statements regarding *animal abuse*
issues in their letter.
There are less loopholes with this bill than
trying to prove "animal abuse" where often times the injuries may not show
outward signs of injury. Two such cases were essentially thrown out as a
result, one was in France recently involving a female German Shepherd
Dog.
You may find the ASPCA has set up on lobbynet.com a pre-made email
letter to forward to Rep Hanaway's office in SUPPORT for this bill:

non Missouri residents may express their support via email or other means

To
read copies of some personal ads placed by zoophiles on public message boards or
emailed to my assistant to get an idea of what they do andhow detremental this
is for animals: http://members.tripod.com/~zooinfo/missouri.html
My
assistant obtained these when she placed a fake ad on one of these forums to
gather response evidence. Her efforts brought out a considerable number of
Missouri residents into bestiality activities or interested in engaging in
bestiality, to the detrement of the animals involved who become disposeble, live
sex-toys.
SAMPLE LETTERs TO Missouri LEGISLATORS
Honerable

Were you aware that everyday in our society that
people sexually abuse animals? These people are called Zoophiles and when they
have sex with animals it is called Bestiality.
Currently the lack of laws
in our state make these immoral acts legal with no penalties! Many other States
have laws making "sexual abuse to animals" or "bestiality" illegal, some with
jail sentences of up to 20 years!
If someone raped your pet dog, this
would be legal in our State!! I am writing you in hopes that you can review this
issue, examine other State Laws covering bestiality and sexual abuse to animals,
and propose legislation in our State to make these immoral and disgusting acts
illegal!!
The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) has recently
announced a campaign covering "sexual abuse to animals" and are striving to make
this act illegal in the remaining States with no laws covering this issue. Their
webpage covering this topic can be viewed at: (http://www.hsus.org/current/sexabuse_intro.html)
Also,
there is a recovering Zoophile that is advocating against these activities and
is the most knowledgable person concerning this form of abuse. He has a VERY
informative website detailing all aspects of theZoophile/Bestiality Issue,
including profiles, surveys, similarities of zoophiles to pedaphiles, statute
outlines of the states with laws, case summaries of court actions, etc. His
website can be viewed at: (http://members.aol.com/animalsav/)
I
would appreciate your interest and efforts in this matter. As a humanitarian and
pet owner, I am deeply concerned about this matter and would appreciate a reply
from you regarding any actions taken on your behalf.

Dear
Representative Hollingsworth,
As a constituent, I am deeply troubled that
bestiality is legal in Missouri. This abhorrent sexual practice is a form of
animal abuse. Twenty-four states have laws that prohibit bestiality. Missouri
should join these states in outlawing animal exploitation at it's worst.
I strongly urge you to pass House Bill 1658 and ban the practice of
bestiality in Missouri. Thank you for helping to outlaw this inhumane and
perverse practice in our state.
Sincerely,
(Your Name, Address, Telephone

For
a scanned Los Angeles Sheriff Dept complaint form regarding a CAUGHT zoophile in
California where bestiality is illegal, a newspaper clipping and Dan House's

Urges Lawmakers To Outlaw Bestiality In Missouri
It comes as a shock to
many of us that there is no law in Missouri [ or 23 OTHER states] that
prevents humans from having sex with animals. Indeed, a recent British
Documentary "Hidden Love: Animal Passions" explored Missouri’s burgeoning
underground zoophile community. Tragically, bestiality seems to be proliferating
because of the Internet. If you type the word "bestiality" into a search engine
you will get more than 450,000 hits. Click below to learn how you can help
outlaw this form of
animal cruelty in the show-me
state.
