Dear friends of OpenDDR and Device Recognition,

Those of you who might also be subscribed to DeviceMap mailing lists at Apache.org may have heard or not.

Apache DeviceMap http://devicemap.apache.org/ will soon be archived into Apache's attic.
As out of 13 committers (http://people.apache.org/committers-by-project.html#devicemap) at times it was up to 16, only 2 at most really committed anything over the whole period of time,
especially to device data (the heart of DeviceMap and similar efforts) this is the main reason both Apache board and the PMC felt, it's time to archive it.

DeviceMap won't go away, it's just read only and both releases and snapshots of all artifacts are "as is" so you may have to update or patch device data by yourself.
Which is probably what most users do anyway, otherwise there would have been more commits by more committers and maybe it would have remained active for a bit longer.

Stay tuned, cannot disclose too much here now, but it's quite likely an "OpenDDR.next" project either under its old name or another one takes its place next year.

Happy Holidays and Kind Regards,
Werner
