Friend... I suggest you to try subtitle edit 3.35, an open source subtitle editor able to export XML either interior or smpte.

i should add that I already tried all of the solutions mentioned here: https://code.google.com/p/opendcp/issues/detail?id=84using the provided templates there also does not work!--

unfortunately it is for windows only, i'm on a complete mac workflow here. any other solutions?
