TIFF and transparency

Hi all,
I know that this has been discussed moons ago but I cannot find the
conclusion. How is transparency treated with TIFS? I'm exporting from
Premiere Pro a 1920x1080 project as 1998x1080 tiffs and Premiere exports
the left/right borders as transparent borders. Will they turn into black
when transcoded into JPEG2000?
