Hi there,

I've been succesfully making working DCP's for a couple months now.
Recently, the local theater updated his Dolby DSS200 with the 4.3.5.13
firmware. Since then, none of my DCP's has been working. There is an
"X" alongside the title of the clip, which the server is unable to
read. The theater operator told me that it was corrupted, which I
doubt, since all my DCP indicate that.

I'm in a lot of trouble right now, if somebody's had the same
experience, your input will be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

Did it happen just for the OpenDCP generated content? Could you publish at least some of the packages (xml only)?

Best regards,

I've got a quite a few OpenDCP packages out on various Dolby servers and not
heard anything like this (yet).

Can you provide specs of the DCPs you create? I'm testing DCP tomorrow on a
DSS200 and can ask what firmware they are running.

More information would be useful...

Is this happening on existing packages already on the server?
Is it happen when ingesting new packages?
Are these MXF Interop or SMPTE packages?

etc...

- Unit: Dolby DSS200 with the 4.3.5.13 update
- It is happening with OpenDCP generated content, other sources are
said to work.
- It is happening when ingesting new packages. My old content, still
on the server, do work.
- SMPTE, 30fps, FLAT, 1920X1080, 2.0 stereo. (CEGEP_ADV_F_FR-XX_CA-
G_20-FR_2K_IND_20120607_BAL_2D_OV)
- I've tried a Scope package, without success.
- Jpeg2000 were generated using OpenDCP's OpenJPEG.
- The XML files of my DCP are available at: http://www.sendspace.com/file/bgvaqk
- This DCP was succesfully ingested in a Doremi server (I don't have
hardware informations)

Thank you everybody! I know that I do not have a lot of details, I
will try to supply you with more information as requested.

I've not been able to get reliable 30fps playback of SMTPE packages on Dolby
or Doremi. Sometimes they work, sometimes playback is stuttered. According
to sources in IMAX (custom Doremi), they don't expect smooth 30fps SMTPE
playback until at least the end of this year but more likely Q1/Q2 2013.

So it well may be that firmware breaks 30fps SMPTE playback. Even if it
worked before, manufacturers and software developers are still working on
SMTPE playback from what I hear, so it's not a reliable format (yet). In my
experience, the only package type that plays consistently, globally on
various gear is MXF Interop 24fps at this time.

Stephen,

But doremi say, that they do support up to 60 fps (even using Dolphin board)! I've never tried, though...

I know but IMAX's Doremi's may have other limitations. I just tried two
weeks ago with some tests and they did not play. IMAX tech support confirmed
they won't support it until next year. That's 30fps specifically, not 48fps.
I did not ask about 60).

Until recently, the Dolby unit did accept 30fps but the firmware
update could have broken the playback, as Stephen said. I will proceed
to a test a soon as possible!

After a quick test, I can confirm that 24fps didn't resolve the issue.
The "X" is still showin on the right side of the filename. That being
said, I will continue my tests in 24fps!

Can the operator get the logs? Are you sure you remembered to convert the audio to 24-bit 48khz for this DCP? That is the one the most common reasons a package comes up "corrupted".

Oh and also disable digital signatures.

What’s the reason for that?

A film is – or should be – more like music than like fiction. It should be a progression of moods and feelings. The theme, what’s behind the emotion, the meaning, all that comes later.

digital signatures add complexity, so disabling them can simplify
things as a test point.

Gosh!

I contacted my editor and he revealed to me that he had forgotten to
convert the audio files to 24bit. He's been doing the mxf creation for
a couple of months and he's stopped converting the files a while ago.

You'll understand that, while I think and wish this is the issue, I'm
feeling pretty humiliated right now. The "panic button" could have
been pressed far later, if I had made a full checkup with my team,
starting from scratch, not at package creation.

Anyway, I will proceed to some tests (24fps & 30fps) and report back
to you guys. We could be able to close this thread in 36 hours, which
would be impressive!

Thank you guys!
