Hi all -
I am looking for historic and current counts of voter registration, ideally by city council district, or something that can be coerced like ward and division data.
The closest I found was this data set for voter counts

A few questions about this:
  • This only goes up to 2018 primary election.  Is  data since then available?
  • This includes data by ward and by precinct.  I'm not familiar with elections being designated by precinct.  What does this mean?
  • Is data by both ward and division available?  I can tell what wards and divisions are in each city council district so that would be useful to get counts of voter registration by city council district.

Thank you!

Hi Maneesha. I don't have an answer about the City's data, but the Commonwealth of PA makes available a full export of all voter registration data for $20 from https://www.dos.pa.gov/VotingElections/OtherServicesEvents/VotingElectionStatistics/Pages/VotingElectionStatistics.aspx

In terms of the terminology, "precinct" and "ward division" are synonymous in Philadelphia. Precinct is a more common term across the US, but Philadelphia calls them "ward divisions".

Best,

Robert

Thanks Robert.
Right now I'm not interested in individual state-wide data, so I was hoping the aggregate Philadelphia data might be available somewhere.

If "precinct" is synonymous with "ward division" how do I translate the 3-4 digit "precinct" id into the ward and division?
If I can get ward and division data here, that would be great.

Then I'm just looking for how to get data for the past 5 years (and keeping it current).

- Maneesha

Maneesha,

The 4 digit ID in the DIVISION_NUM field is a combination of the Ward ID (2 digits) and the Division ID (2 digits).

Best,

Robert
