David,

I think this street pole dataset represents the active street poles in the city (but not signs) and it is updated on an ongoing basis (the UP_DATE field has values from 1997 to 2019). It represents many different pole types.

Best regards,

Robert

Hi,

Can you please forward this to the appropriate persoN?

I was wondering if you could tell me a little more about variables in the Philadelphia Street poles data located here:https://www.opendataphilly.org/dataset/street-poles
  1. I've guessed that the X and Y column refer to the lat/long of pole placement and Pole Date refers to when it was installed. Is this correct?
  2. Is this the full set of pole placements in Philadelphia for the time frame or is it some subset?
  3. Does it include just lighted poles or others like road signs, etc.?
  4. Are these just new lighted pole placements, meaning before the placement there was no light pole there, or could they also be representing replacements? Is there a way to distinguish the two?
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you,
David

David,

I don't know the answer, but there is a contact email address in the metadata record, and you could potentially reach out to them.

Best regards,

Robert

Thanks Robert, do we know if POLE_DATE or UP_DATE represent the dates that the poles were actually put in the ground and activated, or do they just represent when the were entered in the excel file?

Hi all,
I'm a newbie to working with opendataphilly. I was looking at options for GIS software on opendataphilly.org and until I figure which program to use, I've been doing plots in Google Maps. opendataphilly data can be downloaded, adjusted with some code (I use Python and R) to ensure addresses include street/city/zip (or lat/long if provided), and uploaded as a CSV to Google Maps for an instant plot of all the locations, with each point clickable to read the name of the location. This personalized map can then be shared with others. Is this something that can be listed as an option on opendataphilly?

Thanks for a great resource of City information!
Adam

Adam,

Thanks for your feedback on the Resources page. I've gone through edited all of the resource page links, adding and removing several items, including Google Maps.

Regards,

Robert
