Follow-up on 311 Data Fields (Description)

Hi there Open Data Philly Group,

First, thank you to many for all the work maintaining and caring for city data!

Secondly, I'm new to the data science space and would like to start a project that involves 311 requests. Unfortunately, I cannot access/see the description field in the data source on 311 Visualization. Though, I see description is one of the fields used in the project on Github and online Accela table.

Can you help me connect the dots here? Any assistance pointing me to the right data source would be deeply appreciated!!

I think I understand what you are asking, and I don't think there is a description field in the public release of the 311 data. The 311 visualization is driven by the data stored in the CARTO API that provides the CSV files in the OpenDataPhilly catalog entry.  The Metadata entry for the 311 data matches the fields that are stored in the CARTO API and are displayed in the 311 visualization and do not include the description field. 

My best guess is that the City made a decision to provide a subset of the fields that are in Salesforce in the public data release. If you would like to get access to additional fields, you may have to make a public records request; there are instructions on how to do this at https://www.phila.gov/open-records-policy/
