Hey,

I spent some time last night updating the readme (https://github.com/azavea/Open-Data-Catalog) on how to build and deploy this app. Note that by default there is pretty much no styling at all applied (which can be rather jarring).

In case any of your are not familiar with the Django+Postgres stack or are curious where to host I would recommend trying out Heroku (http://www.heroku.com). They will actually provide free cloud hosting for a ton of platforms, django included. There are instructions (in the readme) about how to deploy directly to Heroku.

Hi folks,

I deployed the OpenSanDiego site onto an amazon micro instance. If
there is any interest, I could create an AMI that would allow for easy
deployment. You would still need to think about theming and loading
data into the catalog, but thats going to be a concern no matter how
you deploy it.

Wonder how EC2 micro instance pricing compares to heroku? In either
case, Im sure its quite cheap and $ should not be the blocker.

The AMI idea is awesome! ^_^ OpenDataPhilly is running on the smallest
Linode instance which runs about $20 a month. You'd have to load all
the packages and do some administration yourself, but we've never had
trouble with Linode or with the site's performance.

For reference, an amazon micro instance costs ~$14/month + bandwidth
which should be pretty minimal for a site like this.

We have *some* capacity to grant resources on heroku for one year. Details of criteria for getting access are not yet developed, but can pursue if needed.
