Hi everyone,

I'm Suhas  Ramesha, a 2nd year Ai/ML student studying in MVJCE,India, with a strong interest in computer vision and real-time image processing. After reviewing the project ideas for GSoC 2025, I’m excited about the possibility of integrating Fractal ArUco into OpenCV.

The core idea is to leverage the novel design of Fractal markers—which combine multiple fiducial square markers of varying sizes—to offer robust detection across diverse distances and occlusion scenarios. My vision is to create a simple API for Fractal ArUco in OpenCV that mirrors the current ArUco module, accompanied by detailed documentation and an engaging demo to showcase its potential.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on a few points:

  • API Design: Are there specific aspects of the current ArUco API you’d like to see improved or adapted for Fractal ArUco?

  • Integration Challenges: Could you share insights on potential pitfalls in merging this new marker concept with the existing OpenCV architecture?

  • Demo Scope: What key features or scenarios would be most impactful to demonstrate the advantages of Fractal ArUco?

I’m in the early stages of drafting my proposal and would greatly appreciate any guidance or feedback from those experienced with OpenCV and marker detection techniques.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to contributing to the OpenCV community and exploring this innovative approach further.

Best regards,

Suhas Ramesha,
