Dear OpenCV Community,

I’m Utso Sarkar, a student at IIT Roorkee in Mathematics & Computing, interested in contributing to OpenCV as part of my preparation for Google Summer of Code (GSoC) 2026.

I’ve been working with Python and computer vision, using OpenCV in projects such as an image restoration/enhancement pipeline, feature-based image analysis, and smaller experiments involving filtering, transformations, edge detection, and contour analysis. These have sparked my interest in understanding OpenCV’s internals and contributing to the core library.

I would appreciate guidance on:

  • Beginner-friendly issues or modules for first-time contributors

  • Key skills or areas to focus on for effective OpenCV contributions

  • Project areas that may be relevant for GSoC 2026

I’m eager to start contributing early and learn from the community.

Thank you for your time and for maintaining OpenCV.

Best regards,
Utso Sarkar
