I often get confused calls and often these relate to a confusion in the software development eco-system. I would like to try map this eco-system and have made a start here

Any additions, comments etc ?

Regards
Avron

Not sure who the audience of this is - someone non-technical will
probably get scared... :/
You could take it further and position WordPress, (Ruby on) Rails and
things like CakePHP and Symfony as people mention these in the same
confused way...

Ralph,

I certainly need to add a variety of other technologies, your feedback is welcome. This is aimed at non-technicals, I get a lot of calls asking about technology choice and find it useful to have some mechanism to explain the
technologies and where they sit in the eco-system ....

If you do think of other common technologies and/or a better way of displaying the data, please let me know.

Thanks
Avron

Avron,

I think this is a great idea. I also encounter the type of questions this tries to answer quite often. I also think this can be a great way to promote the project. If we transform it into a high-quality infographic, which are the latest trend, we can then circulate it to top blogs and get great exposure. There are event services that help you create infographics on-line. It needs some additions, and a few adjustments, but over I like it.

Yoav.

Great, let's go for it. Big problem is are thousands of frameworks and technologies. Do you know any info graphic tools ?

In that case please add Joomla.
Opera regular browser (you already have it as mobile browser)
"MongoDB" is a "NoSQL" system, so ideally shouldn't be listed as
"SQL", maybe should just call "database"

I think we have most of the common names covered, I like nice
"infographics", it needs to be arranged in a way that makes it easy
for people to locate their keywords.

I just got a message from someone who asked me if I know any cheap
developers in London because she wants to build her "entire system
using .NET because it needs building from scratch"... That's what we
are up against... :/
