The input and output data buffers on this module are 8 bits wide... and the corresponding buffers on the MAC core are 32 bits wide. Can someone suggest a good strategy for gluing these together? If someone has a code example of connecting these two components, I would be grateful.

Try to leverage the asynmatric asynchronous fifo. For example, write in as 32bit data width with 25MHz clock and read out as 8 bit data width with 100MHz.
