The FORCE11 Annual Conference is happening December 7-9, 2021. Please join us. Registration is free
The program committee has been working hard to put together an amazing set of talks, deep dives, and community discussions on the future of scholarly communications.
Over three days we will have two main time blocks: from 10:00-13:00 UTC and 17:00-21:00 UTC. This means there is time for our global FORCE11 community to engage – the full schedule is available.
FORCE2021 Keynote highlights
Leslie Chan, Associate Professor in the Department of Global Development Studies, University of Toronto Scarborough, will speak on: “Beyond Diversity and Inclusion: Challenging Structural Racism and Systemic Biases in Academic Knowledge Production” 10:00UTC Dec 7th
Shalia Nair-Bedouelle from UNESCO will speak on: “How open science can help us achieve the sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)?” 10:00 UTC Dec 8th
Dr. Anindita Bhadra, Associate Professor, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Kolkata will speak on: “The Future of Science Work: Pandemic Impacts on Scientific Communication & Collaboration” 18:00 Dec 9th
FORCE2021 will feature three days of poster presentations & lightning talks!
Each day of the conference includes poster presentations from the FORCE11 worldwide community. Topics range from FAIR to OA and everything in between. Community presentations at 12:00 UTC and 20:00 UTC daily with an extra session at 11:00 UTC on Wednesday. The full list of poster presentations with date and times is available on the conference website.
There are two Panels per day, gathering experts to look at issues in depth:
Tuesday Dec 7th
- 18:00 UTC Governance Models of Open Infrastructure: Building Sustainability and Capacity
- 19:00 UTC Successes from Student Organizations - Engaging Early Career Professionals and its impact in the future
Wednesday Dec 8th
- 18:00 UTC Bibliodiversity - introducing systemic changes in scholarly communications to support equity and inclusion
- 19:00 UTC Science on TikTok, WhatsApp and Twitter: How are new platforms helping to communicate science? What can the science communication community do to support and enhance these efforts?
Thursday Dec 9th
- 10:00 UTC Discoverability in (a) crisis
- 19:00 UTC The future and challenges of research assessment in Open Science er
Attendees have an opportunity to participate in Community Discussions
The Community Discussion on Equity and Inclusion is on Tuesday 7th at 11:00 UTC, and on Thursday 9th at 11:00 UTC will be an opportunity to gather players in the Open Metadata space to share lessons learned.
Don’t forget the pre and post conference Hackathon!
The FORCE11 Software Citation Implementation WG (SCIWG) is holding a hackathon before and after the main FORCE2021 events. The main theme for hacking/discussing/doing is software citation and metadata exports. More information is available online.

And to top the event off, there will be an Open Publishing Awards ceremony at 21:00 UTC on Thursday 9th December
