Anyone got any tips for driving in races, or just in general in the rain (i.e. Driving to the Insurgent in Delivering the EMP, Hosts who put rain on for races, etc.)? I can't drive in the rain for the life of me. Is there a car that performs better in rain? I feel like Rockstar kind of screwed up the physics for this, because I live in the Midwest of the U.S. where it snows a lot during the winter and I got to say, driving in GTA in the rain is like driving in a blizzard lol.

That's just the thing, I don't milk the hell out of it. I use a combination of braking and pushing the throttle halfway, but I always seem to spin out of control on tight turns. I see some people going really fast in a turn with no problem.

It can depend on the car as well. Do you tend to drive RWD, FWD or AWD? Fully modded cars will give more wheel spin making spin outs more likely. If your looking at hairpin type turns you need to being going quite slow in the rain. Also in races try using a wide line through the corner if your not already.

In a straight line, you can go full throttle but if you feel you're losing the car a bit in fast corners or while passing other cars, just let go of the gas until you regain full control! Stomping the brakes is the worst thing you can do in wet conditions!

The 2 best ways are tail braking and heavy-braking, tail braking is self explanatory, you break lightly through the turn to keep the momentum going, works best on 90 degree turns or wider. heavy-braking is best used when you're approaching tight turns, you break heavily and coast through the turn pressing lightly on the accelerator, works best on turns that are smaller than a right angle.

Let me rephrase my posts. I understand the braking and coasting aspect, but can someone explain to me when it's good to use the handbrake or the regular brake in a turn? How early in the turn should I brake? When is it better to just cruise through a turn coasting? Especially in the rain. I'm sorry if I offended anyone and came off a rude. I didn't mean it like that and I am sorry you misinterpreted what I mean and I'm sorry for my poor word choice and wording of my posts.

Personally, I love racing in the rain. The driving in this game is way too easy and mindless, so the rain brings some judgement and car control back into it. Unfortunately it seems most people don't like it, as switching to rain in a race lobby will usually cause most of the people to leave...

In a regular race, you will pretty much never use the handbrake unless you are just showing off or screwing around. Of course there can be times where it can save you and some really tight tracks with alleyways and such where it can be used to good effect but really it's a very situational tool. A good rule is that if unsure as to whether you should be using the handbrake or not, then don't.

As for when to brake and all that, we can't really tell you and it's something you really just have to learn yourself as it's just a "feel" and judgement thing that you learn from a combination of experience, understanding and applying physics, and trial and error. If you are going to try to learn then the best way to learn in-game is to follow someone who is good and watch what they do, but that being said you also have to have an understanding of why the person is doing what they are doing or else you will have trouble applying it when they aren't around.

For rain driving, a general rule is to do everything more gently. Don't stomp on the brakes, instead ease onto them, don't floor the accelerator, and turn in smoothly. Sudden inputs upset the car more, and when traction is limited an upset car will be harder to control and is more likely to get away from you.

Hey guys, I've read everyone's tips and have been practicing today. I just want to thank everyone that contributed into helping me out. I'm sorry again if I cam across as a bit of a douche to my earlier posts.
