I am running KDE 4.7.2 on amd64.

echo "exec /usr/local/bin/startkde" > ~/.xinitrc
chmod a+x ~/.xinitrc

I found out that with all KDE applications installed, you ***have***
to install databases/virtuoso. Without it the initial kde profile is
not created properly, I experienced hangs.

Tested the following apps fine...

konsole - terminal
konqueror & firefox - browser (youtube.com/html5)
dolphin - file manager
kopete - chat client (gtalk is jabber protocol)
okular - pdf reader
kpatience - freecell

I also cursorily tested the koffice suite.

attaching some screenshots...

Except for cantor (compile issue with math/R backend), everything
compiles and installs with dpb. Cantor will be fixed in a day or
two... So any compile tests on Sparc or other exotic architectures?

followed the advice of 'loonyphoenix'
http://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/lysoc/kde_473_the_first_nepomuk_stability_release/

Go to System Settings > Desktop Search and disable Strigi&Nepomuk there
Open ~/.config/akonadi/akonadiserverrc and turn StartServer=true
to StartServer=false

and KDE is much faster now (dropped to 50 processes from 80)

Btw, KDE 4.7.2 still uses Windows style menus, i.e start button at
bottom left of screen.

Yep. Sometimes I think to disable it by default... This also could fix
Virtuoso-related problems you've seen.

Bad idea if you your apps KDE PIM functionality (and many KDE apps do).

Well, process count itself doesn't matter that much. Strigi/Nepomuk
could. If it really needs Virtuoso, then we have to either add the
latter to kdelibs's RUN_DEPENDS or disable Nepomuk by default and
notify users in package README. Any opinions from public?

BTW, could anyone create any fine OpenBSD theme for KDM and/or KDE
itself to use by default? :)

Ouch... needs the upgrade to KDE 4.7.3 to make nepomuk better. Reading
the comments is very instructive.

IMHO, I would still personally disable strigi/nepomuk, and have a note
in readme. There is no point in indexing continuously and after login.
You can use locate/ find+grep etc. This ain't Windows, this is
OpenBSD.
