We've added Adobe's Digital Editions bookmark format to the examples
page: http://wiki.openbookmarks.org/Similar_Examples

Does anyone have examples of similar schemas from other platforms?

I've referenced a few times the work being done for EPUB linking.

It's not a bookmark schemas exactly but there's a lot in common with bookmarks.

Thanks Hadrien - you're referring to this?

http://code.google.com/p/epub-revision/wiki/LinkingImplementationProposals

I'll extract some of that, where relevant, to the wiki. Thanks.

The Calibre source (and perhaps some of the docs) will be the richest
source of current annotation implementations. It supports the internal
formats of quite a few devices.

Designing a format stored locally is a little different than building an exchange format though. Any doc for the APIs used by Google/Amazon/B&N/Kobo?

That's a totally valid point, I was just trying to point toward similar prior art. I'm not aware of documentation of the wire formats.

The discussions I've had about the details of these implementations have been both off the record and highly non-specific, sorry. I doubt there'll be too much public info, but I may be wrong.

I think the W3C Annotea project can be a good reference -
http://www.w3.org/2001/Annotea/

Annotea uses an RDF based annotation schema for describing annotations
as metadata and XPointer for locating the annotations in the annotated
document.

On the other hand seems the project reached a dead-end (or am i
wrong?)

Itai.

As the last project news is from 2003, I think we can assume that this
portion at least is dead, but there's lots of good stuff there,
particularly about XPointers. Thanks Itai.
