Using OpenBook 2.1.8, you can alternatively enter a book number using
the Open Library key /b/OLXXX, which seems to be immediately available
to search.
Open Library 3 is nearly ready for public release -- it lets you select
the book number type from a drop-down. I can send you a beta copy if you
are interested.
Thanks, John

Hi John,
Well, I tried using the "versions" for OLID but had no success. In fact, I usually ended up with nothing but "by" and commas. I tried using the version I just updated with an image and the one before it, too. Nada.
What I DID discover (and you may already know this) is that WHERE the image is uploaded matters. There are the little thumbnails that are probably the general record, then there is the book-specific page (sort of like the old author and title cards in the card catalog). In order for the cover to take, the image has to be loaded onto the book-specific page. Odds go up if it is on both pages AND all editions, but ... the book-specific one is the one that matters.
When I do that, if I go back and "preview" the HTML version, the cover comes up beautifully ... and I don't need to refresh the browser.

Hi Terry, re: versions. Mind sending me an example of one where it didn't work, including the revision number? Thanks, John

Hi John,
Here's one. The OLID is OL16504133M I tried title searches and author searches and it doesn't come up. I clicked from this record on my blog. I pasted it in with revisions blank and also with revisions 8 and 9, too.
