Hi Tuc, sometimes when you insert a new book in Open Library it takes a
minute or two before the ISBN becomes available to search. Is it working
now?

Using OpenBook 2.1.8, you can alternatively enter a book number using
the Open Library key /b/OLXXX, which seems to be immediately available
to search.

Open Library 3 is nearly ready for public release -- it lets you select
the book number type from a drop-down. I can send you a beta copy if you
are interested.

Thanks, John

Hi John,

Well, I tried using the "versions" for OLID but had no success. In fact, I usually ended up with nothing but "by" and commas. I tried using the version I just updated with an image and the one before it, too. Nada.

What I DID discover (and you may already know this) is that WHERE the image is uploaded matters. There are the little thumbnails that are probably the general record, then there is the book-specific page (sort of like the old author and title cards in the card catalog). In order for the cover to take, the image has to be loaded onto the book-specific page. Odds go up if it is on both pages AND all editions, but ... the book-specific one is the one that matters.

When I do that, if I go back and "preview" the HTML version, the cover comes up beautifully ... and I don't need to refresh the browser.

Hi John,
thanks in advance. I wait for one or two DAYS no minutes :-P
I used the Open Library key /b/OLXXX and it works, but not the isbn
key and this option is very important for me..

I would like to try the beta version if you want.

thanks

Hi Terry, I tried the revision numbers for this entry and they appear to be working correctly.

See the tests with notes on this page. http://johnmiedema.ca/openbook-wordpress-plugin/openbook-3-0-beta-test-revision-number/

When a revision number is specified, it shows the record details for that revision only and not later revisions. I.e., version 8 had no cover but it did have a Good Reads ID. If you specify version 8, the cover won't show up but the ID will. Most people will likely just use the most current version, i.e., no revision number. But for people who want to show an exact record with no details modified by others, the revision number comes in quite handy.

John
