I'm trying to use our wiki, and it seems wikinet is just unusably slow :(

I guess the reason we're not running our own wiki is mainly spam issues.
is there no solution to this with a MediaWiki? or, maybe we can restrict
editing to registered users, whom we manually approve each time?

No, it's not that easy. The OSM stack, or rather passenger fusion,
require a different apache package than php, which mediawiki runs on.
Thus we can't host them on the same machine at the current time
without ugly hacks that I'd rather avoid.

do I simply install a MediaWiki, or is there anything funky to be set up?

if I give you permissions, would you set it up? ;)

You need php and mysql as far as I remember. You also need some captcha plugin.

Yeah, I think I've got the time to do that today.

Hi,

The Wiki link on the OAM homepage points to http://wiki.openaviationmap.org/index.php/Main_Page.
Is this now the official Wiki? If yes, why the content from from http://openaviationmap.wikinet.org/wiki/Main_Page was not transferred? OAM will never make any progress if it starts from scratch every month :-(

Recently there was a lot of discussion about tools and frameworks but the homepage still contains nothing more than some airspace maps of Hungary. The homepage represents the project and there - nothing happens :-(. Paying people to add data indicates that this project has already failed as a community project. A project is about people and communication, not just tools and frameworks!

So OAM still has:
- no mission
- no (real) homepage
- no community
- various unmaintained wikis

I know that I made the same complaints already some months ago. Unfortunately, in my opinion, this evaluation is still valid.

Axel
