Hi All,

During my spare time, I am involved in developing an Android app for OpenAustralia. Tried a few API's and have the below questions.

I find that most of the public API's are get methods. Like getComments, Are there any API's to post a comment?

Also, what is the date format followed for getDivisions API. I tried different dates in http://www.openaustralia.org/api/docs/getDivisions, but got empty values.

In getSenators API, the "office" JSON parameter, for "to_date" is "9999-12-31". The date looks to be a invalid one. Is this because the senator/representative is in the same position and a dummy value is been assigned for to_date?

Appreciate if someone could elaborate on these.

Thanks,
Priju

Hi Priju,

Yes, you're right. There are no APIs to post comments and I doubt it would be something that we would consider adding just because the comments in OpenAustralia.org are not terribly functional and have never really been used for the purpose that they were originally intended.

With the getDivisions API I think you need to supply either a postcode or a search term. The date then restricts the search results further. So, for example see http://www.openaustralia.org/api/docs/getDivisions?postcode=2780&date=&search=&output=js#output. The date should be in the "normal" iso 8601 format of yyyy-mm-dd.

In the getSenators API, if the to_date is "9999-12-31" that just means their still in that office and there isn't an end date. Sorry about that. It's a bit ugly.

I hope that helps.

All the best,
Matthew
