Hi everyone,

First, let me introduce myself.  I am Antonio Capapé, and I am trying to maintain a fork of Observation Manager.

I am subscribed to this group some time ago, but I can't see any communication here. I don't see any progress or commit in Github neither, so my guess is that this project is in someway abandoned. Is anyone working in this project?

I am asking because I'd like to have more deep sky types, and I am not sure how to request them or contribute to code. I'm thinking of Supernovae, Novae, or similar objects.

Does it make sense to add these as objects to OAL?

Thank you in advance and clear skies.

Hi Antonio,

I'm not sure whether the former members are still subscribed, actively working on their OAL implementations/tools.
But as they might be still active, and I saw we had some new member requests, maybe this group/initative could be restarted.

Regarding your question:
AFAIR, all the extenstion types, like DeekSky types are not mandatory to be supported by all tools. So -basically- you can create your own DeekSky type, which
only ObservationManager would "understand" first, but maybe other will adopt.
I mean at the end this group was initiated to align on a format, but sure you can go into a lead, and hope that other join/give feedback.

My two cents...

Dirk

BTW: Thanks for your great work on the Observation Manager! Love to see the project continue! Gracie mille!

Hi Antonio,

I'm the author of Deep-Sky Planner software and I still support OAL in my product. I think that the variable stars extension (ext_VariableStars.xsd) covers your suggested additions. Can you look at that and tell me whether it is sufficient?

As the author of DeepskyLog (https://www.deepskylog.org/), I can confirm that we still use openastronomylog to import and export observations.

Cheers,

Wim
