Hi OpenAstronomy Community,

I am a first-year student pursuing a B.S in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at IIT Guwahati. I am very passionate about the intersection of space science and data analysis, and I am writing to introduce myself as I begin my journey toward contributing to OpenAstronomy.

My technical background includes:

  • Languages & Tools: Intermediate proficiency in Python, with a strong focus on NumPy and Pandas for data manipulation.

  • Web Technologies: Familiarity with HTML/CSS for creating basic data visualizations and dashboards.

I have been exploring the OpenAstronomy principles of open development and reproducible science. I am particularly interested in projects involving data processing or visualization where I can apply my classroom learning to real-world astronomical datasets.

I would love some guidance on the following:

  1. Which sub-organizations (e.g., SunPy, Astropy) would be most suitable for a student with a strong focus on Data Science and Python?

  2. Are there any "good first issues" or documentation tasks currently available that would help me get familiar with your codebase?

I have already joined the OpenAstronomy discourse and look forward to participating in the discussions there.

Thank you for your time and for maintaining such an inspiring community.

Best regards,

ABHISHEK HOLAGUNDI
