Hello everyone,

I hope this email finds you well. My name is Michel Hecker Faria, and I am a Computer Engineering student at the University of São Paulo (USP).

I have a technical background in computer science from ETEC. In that institution, I had my first experience with computing, where I developed a website to promote my idea about tree mapping in cities. During my first and second years of undergraduate studies, I undertook a research project where I programmed a game for gamification education on dietary habits and health. I also participated in an extracurricular activity focused on building probes and atmospheric balloons, conducting measurements, and collecting data. I am currently a member of the advanced electromagnetism group, where I specialize in the field of volumetric display imaging.

I have always had a profound passion for physics, especially astronomy. One of my dreams is to work as an engineer in an aerospace company. Speaking of astronomy, while exploring the organizations involved in Google Summer of Code over the past few years, I came across Open Astronomy. I have read through some projects developed during the event and perused several GitHub repositories, and I was deeply impressed.

I am writing this email because I am interested in participating in Google Summer of Code in 2024. I am reaching out in advance to inquire how I can get involved with Open Astronomy in Google SoC, what steps I need to take, and whom I should contact. Ultimately, I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to connect with a mentor or friend who could provide guidance and support on this journey.

After reviewing Open Astronomy's GitHub repositories, I am ready to contribute. Can you provide information on any specific projects the organization is heavily involved with this year?

I am grateful for your time and attention, and I am excited to collaborate on meaningful endeavors with you in the future.

Sincerely,
Michel Hecker Faria.
