Hey Everyone,

I am Akhoury Shauryam, a 3rd Year student at Chennai Mathematical Institute pursuing my Bachelor's in Mathematics and Computer Science, I started contributing to Open Source and I came across your organization.

I went through the previous year's student guidelines to learn how to contribute as a student, and I went through the organizations and projects that come into OpenAstronomy. I would like to contribute to a project but I'm a bit confused and I need help. I'm fairly experienced in Python and there a lot of Python projects under OpenAstronomy that I would like to contribute to. But I've also recently started getting into Julia and JuliaAstro caught my eye. Can someone tell me what aspects of Julia does JuliaAstro utilize? I'll love to know more and try adding to it.

Thanks!
Akhoury Shauryam

Dear Akhoury,

JuliaAstro utilizes many of the generic Julia packages; in particular, the Measurements, Unitful, and BinaryBuilder packages. The latter is for wrapping mainly C/C++ libraries.

If you want to become more familiar with JuliaAstro, then I suggest that you visit https://github.com/JuliaAstro and  join the "astronomy" Julia slack channel. This is where most of the discussion about JuliaAstro takes place.
