This webinar will focus on how to use the OpenAlex API (see Part 1 for introductory overview). We will review the basics of constructing API requests and using results. We will then walk through how to perform a few specific examples of analyses not possible in the User Interface that are easily achieved using the API. For this demonstration, we will be coding in Python.

OpenAlex has many ways of classifying research to help researchers and institutions find the works they are looking for. OpenAlex recently added DataCite as a major source, significantly increasing the coverage of diverse scholarly outputs in OpenAlex, most notably: research datasets! In this webinar, we will review coverage of research datasets in OpenAlex, their associated metadata and citations, and how to find and analyze research datasets in OpenAlex.
