Hi All,

We are changing the IDs for domains, fields, and subfields from a number into an OpenAlex string. So domain ID 1 will turn into 'https://openalex.org/domains/1'.

The will be rolled out as:
1. The number IDs for domain, field, and subfield in works will all turn into strings (happening shortly). So subfield 1312 will be '1312'.
2. The string IDs for domain, field, and subfield will gradually turn into the new OpenAlex string format over the next seven days. So '1312' will turn into 'https://openalex.org/subfields/1312'.

Please update any software that is relying on topics so it can handle this change.

We're sorry to make a change like this so shortly after releasing topics! But we feel this new ID format is self-documenting, making it easy and obvious to find more info. We will gradually use these IDs for other new endpoints, such as /countries and /languages.

Thanks for your patience,
Casey
