I am SO excited that grant information is now available. Is there a way to get a list of all of the funding bodies and their OpenAlex IDs?

Hi Casey, all, 

Great to have funders in OpenAlex now! I have two additional observations/questions - also submitted as tickets, but I always find the mutual exchanges in this group super useful, so posting them here as well: 

Works: Funders / grants 

The variable ‘funders’ seems to be mostly empty (with only 32 Works containing information in this variable), as opposed to the variable grants.funder (with 7M Works with information in this field). Will Works.funders be deprecated in future, or is it the intention for this field to be completed in upcoming releases?

Funders: IDs

Currently, ID types for Funders include Wikidata and ROR, but not Crossref Funder ID. Since (currently all) Funder information is derived from Crossref, would it be possible to add Crossref Funder ID as ID type? As far as I am aware, mapping between ROR and Crossref Funder ID is not fully complete/harmonized (yet), and having Crossref Funder ID will help both validating and using Funder information in OpenAlex.

Hi Bianca!

That's correct, Work.funders is deprecated in favor of Work.grants (docs). That funders field should only be in the snapshot and it will gradually be removed as works are updated.

Yes we can add the crossref funder ID. I think that's a great idea.
